Water Quality Sampling is an important way to check the health of watersheds by sampling tributaries for nutrients and other pollutants. The above illustrated procedure shows the procedure for collection of grab samples for the Sarasota County tidal creek monitoring program. On this particular day samples were taken throughout the Myakka River watershed. It is the same procedure used at each site. Each sampling location has bottles for Nitrates, Organo-Phosphorus, chlorophyll, turbidity and color, as well as fecal coliform. It is important that water quality samples are taken the same way for both consistency as well as adherence to state water quality standards. Therefore, it is a good idea to have an illustrated procedure rather than text instructions so that samplers can visualize the procedure.
